Should President Biden or Trump Hire a Geriatric Care Manager?

President Biden showed severe symptoms of confusion and cognitive problems in his presidential debate on June 27, 2024. This has rocked the presidential campaign. The confusion was attributed to a cold and 10-day-old Jet Lag by Biden. His press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and his white house doctor stated he was evaluated in his annual exam in February 2024 of this year in his yearly exam. In addition, they have noted that the president has had a short verbal check-in at the white house gym. It seems clear from Biden and his doctor that there is no plan to do a neurological exam now but to wait until the next annual exam in February or his White House doctor says he needs a new test. Whether he has neurological problems remains a great debate. However, it seems to me, as a geriatric care manager, a neurological exam now would offer up-to-date definite proof of his cognitive state.

Since there are so many warning opinions about Biden’s ability to run for president, it again seems that he should consider having a geriatric care manager do a geriatric assessment, which would then be translated into a written assessment submitted to Biden, his doctor, and his family.

Here are the Benefits of Hireing A Geriatric Care Manager

A geriatric care manager would be an objective professional who would help guide the president and his family through great confidentiality to protect the President. Biden has a very tight, large, intact family that, along with his close campaign advisors, has helped him make decisions about this medical crisis, which has turned into a nationwide political crisis. The advantages of a geriatric care manager and assessment include their vital role in addressing the elder crisis and beyond if he wishes. This could offer the unique healthcare needs of the older president, managing chronic health conditions and providing comprehensive care.

The GCM could assess whether Biden needs another cognitive assessment now rather than after the election next February. She /he could work with the family, his main influencers, to mediate a family meeting to hear the various opinions on whether he should take this cognitive assessment now and, if not, why so that the family could come to a resolution to help Biden make the right decision.

The care manager’s geriatric assessment would be holistic, not only looking at the critical cognitive problem. As it is a multidisciplinary assessment, it evaluates an older person’s functional ability, physical health, cognition and mental health, and socioenvironmental circumstances. Plus, the care manager has a whole-family approach, so he works with Biden’s family, again his key influencers, to help him decide whether to run. If not, they can guide him in his retirement if he and his family wish.

Does Trump Need a Care Manager?

I think former President Trump would benefit from a care manager, too. Neither Biden nor Trump can speak well without a Teleprompter. Trump’s teleprompter went down when he spoke in Las Vegas, and instead of his speech, he talked about the Sharks, completely confusing his audience. It was not the first time he has rambled about sharks , nor uttered verbal gaffes. They both fall into a word salad without IT working to prompt them. Trump’s family is not a ” Tight” family that can influence their father. He is a man who thinks he knows best and never wants to appear ” weak,” so it may be a very tough battle to get him to accept a care manager.
