The geriatric care manager educated Mrs. Sterling and her family on the available in-home care options. The family all agreed that the care manager should help in the interviewing and selection process.  GCM’s can provide home care within their own agency or recommend and excellent home care service that meets the needs of the clients.

The care manager worked with the family to ensure that they each have a role in the process of choosing the home care agency, doing the interviewing, training the care providers and paying for the care. The care manager arranged to set up the caregiver interviews, be involved in helping to orient the chosen caregiver, and oversee and monitor the care situation.

After the family meeting the siblings agreed to work together as a team on their mother’s care plan designed by the geriatric care manager. Bob agreed to handle the financial aspects of the care by paying for it.

Jane volunteered to be involved in the initial interview process and remain the primary family contact. Michael wanted to be involved by helping the caregiver feel comfortable with his mother, as well as assisting her with specific household duties. This made the adult children a team and this is a goal of the GCM always and something a GCM has to know how to do. She made this team in the family meeting. _
