New Book on Rural Aging
I contributed a chapter on Geriatric Care Management in Rural Settings to the just published. Handbook of Rural Aging written by Lenard Kay PHD Professor of Social Work at the University of Maine School of Social Work and Director of the University of Maine Center on Aging.I have know Len 3 decades since I recruited him to be on the GCM Journal Board now the The Aging Life Care Journal in the 90’s. Len contributed an excellent chapter On Maximizing Health and Well Being in Aging Veterans in my Handbook of Geriatric Care Management 4th edition , including how to help veterans get through their benefit claims .
The Book was published just when Biden pushing rural broadband
The Handbook of Rural Aging comes at a lucky time for Rural Elders and those who practice in Rural Communities , like geriatric Care Managers. President Biden has highlight the huge need for broadband in Rural States. Elder have few family to care for them in their rural homes . Adult children leave their homes, leaving their elder family with care providers, to find work as there are so few jobs. Biden’s proposal will target businesses by bringing broadband to them.
