You might consider doing a competition survey. This is a survey of other GCM businesses in your area. It is a process called mystery shopping. This should give you an idea of what your competition is in your area, their services/products and what clients/customers pay for each service/product. . This will help you gage whether the market can bare your new GCM business and if so, what your fees and services should look like, measured against the competition
Mystery shopping is a term used to describe the act of surveying the competition while acting as a consumer making an inquiry. Conducting this type of competition survey is one way to look at the competition and find out what they are doing that is different, better or worse, and to use that information to your benefit.
Your first step toward completing a competition analysis for your business is to create a scenario for mystery shopping. For example, you pretend your aunt is going to need some help because she is confused. You do not know what to do for her at this point. You are checking options available and are responsible for reporting back to the other family members.
Make a list of the competitors who do business in your area and include their phone numbers and Web site information. These will include other geriatric care manager, elder law that partners with a GCM, home health agencies who offer geriatric care management, private non-profits who have a GCM product line. Then, make the calls to the competition.
Use your predetermined mystery-shopping scenario, ask the questions in my next blog , and track the answers as you go. Make certain to ask that a brochure or any other marketing information be mailed to you. In this way, you can compare not only what services are provided and the prices, but also how your inquiry is handled and the time it takes the business to respond.
What is your goal? to find out who the competition is, what is the price point in your area for GCM and how you will design yourr GCM business to make the customer choose you- better products? , better price?? Better customer service??? Better web site??????
